Onshore Rig Moves
Onshore rig moves require the coordination of heavy transport, cranes, rigging, permits, multiple load types, access constraints, vehicle movements, personnel, site conditions, and operating deadlines into one sequence. Onsite Global Logistics LLC (OGL) coordinates the logistics information, provider interfaces, dispatch sequence, custody, exceptions, and daily operating picture around the drilling contractor’s approved rig-move program.
Approved Move Basis and Equipment Register
The foundation of an onshore rig move is the approved move basis and equipment register. OGL reviews the cargo requirements, load types, and dimensions provided by the drilling contractor. We record the asset register and coordinate with the project team to identify the necessary transport equipment. This process supports the alignment of the logistics plan with the drilling contractor’s operational requirements, without replacing their authority or engineering determinations.
By comparing the equipment register against available transport options, OGL supports the selection of appropriate carriers from our qualified network. We transmit the load details to the selected providers, requesting confirmation of their capacity and readiness to execute the move according to the approved sequence.
Rig-Down Interfaces and Provider Coordination
During the rig-down phase, multiple interfaces must be coordinated to maintain the move sequence. OGL coordinates with the drilling contractor, site personnel, and logistics providers to record the release of loads. We request updates from cranes, riggers, and heavy-haul providers to track their arrival and readiness at the site.
OGL does not engineer lifts, operate the rig, or make lifting determinations. Instead, we coordinate the flow of information between the parties involved, identifying potential bottlenecks and transmitting updates to the project team. This coordination supports the orderly dispatch of loads, aligning with the receiving team’s ability to safely accept and position the equipment at the next wellsite.
Sequence, Routes, and Permits
The dispatch sequence is critical to the success of an onshore rig move. OGL coordinates the dispatch of loads based on the approved sequence, requesting updates from carriers as they progress along the route. We review the route plans and permit requirements provided by the carriers, recording their status and transmitting this information to the project team.
OGL does not make permit determinations or promise transit times; it supports the process by identifying missing information and requesting updates from the responsible parties. This coordination helps maintain visibility over the move, allowing the project team to adjust their plans based on the actual progress of the loads.
Staging, Site Readiness, and Custody
As loads approach the next wellsite, staging and site readiness become the focus. OGL coordinates with the receiving team to review site conditions and readiness to accept the equipment. We record the arrival of loads at staging areas or the final site, requesting confirmation of custody transfer from the carriers to the receiving personnel.
Through milestone reporting, OGL transmits the status of each load to the project team, identifying exceptions and supporting the resolution of issues. This visibility allows the drilling contractor to maintain control over the rig-up process, using the logistics information provided by OGL to inform their operational decisions.
Closeout and Reporting
The final phase of the onshore rig move involves closeout and reporting. OGL records the completion of all deliveries, comparing the final milestone reports against the original equipment register. We transmit the closeout documentation to the project team, supporting their reconciliation process and providing a record of the logistics execution. The closeout record can also list unresolved exceptions, returned equipment, delivery evidence still pending, and any follow-up assigned to the responsible carrier, contractor, supplier, or site contact.
