Building Materials Logistics
Onsite Global Logistics (OGL) coordinates the transportation and staging of building materials, structural components, fixtures, and construction machinery. We support procurement and project execution by arranging domestic transport, international freight forwarding, and destination handoffs through qualified providers.
Coordinating Packaged Materials and Structural Components
The construction industry relies on the timely arrival of diverse materials, ranging from packaged goods to large structural elements. OGL coordinates the movement of these items, including palletized cement, tiles, sanitaryware, and insulation, as well as oversized structural steel, precast concrete, and heavy timber. We review cargo dimensions, weight, and handling requirements provided by the manufacturer or shipper to request appropriate equipment from carriers. This includes coordinating flatbeds, step decks, or specialized trailers for domestic transport, and arranging suitable ocean or air freight options for international shipments.
For containerized cargo, we coordinate the booking of standard, open-top, or flat-rack containers based on the cargo specifications. We transmit weather protection and handling instructions from responsible parties to the carriers, supporting the effort to maintain cargo condition during transit. By comparing carrier schedules and equipment availability, we identify routing options that align with project timelines. We also coordinate the consolidation of smaller shipments into full container loads, which can support more organized delivery schedules for large-scale construction projects.
Logistics for Construction Machinery and Fixtures
Beyond raw materials, construction projects require the mobilization of heavy machinery and the delivery of delicate fixtures. OGL supports the logistics for excavators, cranes, loaders, and other construction equipment. We request the necessary permits and routing approvals from relevant authorities through our network of specialized heavy-haul carriers. For international movements, we coordinate roll-on/roll-off (RoRo) or breakbulk shipping options, transmitting the specific lifting and securing requirements provided by the equipment manufacturers.
For interior fixtures, plumbing supplies, and electrical components, we coordinate less-than-truckload (LTL) or full-truckload (FTL) services. We record the handling instructions for fragile items, such as glass panels or high-end finishes, and transmit these requirements to the selected transport providers. This coordination extends to project logistics, where multiple shipments from various suppliers must be synchronized to arrive at the site in a specific sequence. We review the procurement schedule and coordinate with suppliers to align transportation arrangements with the overall project plan.
Storage, Staging, and Site Access Coordination
Construction sites often have limited space for receiving and storing materials. OGL coordinates warehousing and staging solutions through our network of third-party facilities. This allows materials to be received, consolidated, and held off-site until they are needed for installation. We coordinate the transfer of materials from the staging area to the construction site based on the project schedule, supporting a more organized flow of materials and reducing the need for extensive on-site storage.
Site access can present significant logistical challenges, particularly in urban environments or remote locations. We review site access constraints, such as narrow roads, weight restrictions, or limited delivery windows, and request appropriate delivery vehicles from carriers. We coordinate with site managers to schedule deliveries, supporting the orderly flow of materials and reducing congestion at the construction site. We also transmit any specific site safety protocols or entry requirements to the transport providers prior to delivery.
International Freight Forwarding and Customs Coordination
As an FMC-licensed Ocean Freight Forwarder (license 023947F), OGL coordinates the international transportation of building materials. We arrange ocean freight, air freight, and ground transportation to move materials across borders. We record the necessary shipping documentation, such as bills of lading, commercial invoices, and packing lists, and transmit them to the relevant parties. We compare routing options and carrier schedules to identify transportation solutions that align with the project’s timeline and budget constraints.
While OGL is not a customs broker, we coordinate customs brokerage services through appropriately licensed alliance providers when requested. We transmit the required documentation to the customs broker to support the clearance process. We do not make customs, regulatory, or tax determinations, but we support the flow of information between the shipper, the carrier, and the customs broker to facilitate international trade. We also coordinate the final destination handoff, arranging for the transport of cleared goods from the port of entry to the construction site or staging facility.
