Complete Land Rig Moves

HOME
BASIS OF MOVE · READINESS · MOBILIZATION · CLOSEOUT

One Land Rig. Thousands of Details. One Controlled Move Basis.

“Move the land rig” is not an executable scope. A credible program identifies the commercial and operating parties, equipment boundary, current configuration, move state, origin and destination, responsibilities, technical releases, transport sequence, customs treatment, required-on-site date, destination readiness, and final disposition before price or schedule is treated as firm. This service applies to land and onshore drilling rigs—not intact offshore rigs or MODUs.

OGL converts those inputs into a controlled logistics work package and personally drives the interfaces from preliminary planning through mobilization, demobilization, redeployment, return, storage, or repair.

Basis-of-Move Lifecycle OGL-RS-01

The land-rig move is only complete when the asset record closes.

A complete land-rig move is a linked release system. Each phase inherits approved data, open actions, custody, customs status, and technical decisions from the phase before it—then produces evidence for the next gate. This lifecycle does not describe movement of an intact offshore rig.

01

Define Basis

Rig, contract, countries, asset boundary and responsibility map

02

Release Equipment

Identity, condition, technical release and readiness evidence

03

Mobilize

Origin sequence, providers, staging, bookings and custody

04

Cross Border

Export, transport, import and controlled exceptions

05

Deliver & Receipt

Destination sequence, handoff and discrepancy control

06

Reconcile & Close

Returns, temporary entry, substitutions and final dossier

OGL controls the connecting logistics record. Rig configuration, engineering, technical release, lift approval, operating procedures and technical acceptance remain with the contractually appointed qualified parties.
01

Licensing & Execution Confidence

  1. Contract-to-Cargo Responsibility Mapping
  2. Heavy-Haul + Port + Ocean Coordination
  3. Return + Redeployment + Closeout
  1. Serial-Level Asset and Customs Control
  2. Destination Sequence + Final Handover
02

The Basis of Move Comes Before the Booking.

A drilling contract, rental agreement, equipment schedule, operator procedure, rig owner requirement, customs regime, carrier contract, and destination plan can assign different responsibilities to different parties. OGL establishes what is included, excluded, supplied, approved, reimbursable, standby-sensitive, owner-furnished, contractor-furnished, temporary, consumable, replaceable, returnable, or subject to a condition requirement.

The result is a move basis that senior stakeholders can review before transport commitments create exposure.

04

The Rig Equipment Boundary Must Be Explicit.

The controlled equipment boundary can include the mast or derrick, substructure, drawworks, top drive, rotary equipment, mud pumps, mud systems, tanks, engines, generators, SCR or VFD houses, control cabins, pipe-handling systems, BOP and well-control equipment, compressors, catwalks, cranes, camps, workshops, vehicles, tubular-handling equipment, fuel and water systems, tools, testing equipment, consumables, chemicals, spares, loose gear, rental items, owner-furnished equipment, third-party service equipment, and return cores.

Not every item follows the same commercial, technical, customs, hazardous-materials, preservation, ownership, or return logic. OGL uses line-item status so “complete land rig” never becomes a blanket description that hides unresolved exceptions.

05

Rented Rig and Fleet Interfaces

Question Why it matters to the move
Who owns, leases, operates, and maintains each equipment group? Establishes authority, valuation, insurance, technical release, customs party, and return condition.
What does the drilling contract identify as contractor versus operator equipment? Prevents ownership and responsibility gaps at origin, destination, and demobilization.
Which items can be consumed, substituted, cannibalized, repaired, or replaced? Protects the asset register and temporary-admission closure.
What condition, test, certificate, preservation, or inspection is required at handover and return? Defines release gates and claim evidence.
Who carries delay, standby, damage, port, storage, duty, tax, and demurrage exposure? Aligns operating decisions with the commercial contract.
06

Move Data That Drives the Plan

The initial data request covers rig type and configuration, owner and drilling contractor, current and destination locations, scope boundary, move state, equipment schedules, weights and dimensions, centers of gravity and lift data where needed, serial or asset identity, condition, ownership, values, origins, packing, preservation, DG and controlled-item status, technical releases, route constraints, facilities, cranes, transport sequence, customs history, expected duration, onward or return destination, required-on-site date, rig-up sequence, and closeout expectations.

Unknown data is not hidden. It is assigned an owner, due date, confidence level, decision impact, and hold point.

Frequently Asked Questions

Clear answers for procurement, project controls, logistics, and site teams evaluating the execution path.

01
Can OGL quote a complete land rig move from an equipment list?

A preliminary list can support clarification and budget development. A committed solution requires responsibility, condition, release, packing, dimension and weight, technical, route, facility, customs, export, provider, insurance, destination, sequence, and timing information appropriate to the selected modes and countries.

02
Does OGL perform rig-down and rig-up?

OGL coordinates the logistics interface around the owner’s or drilling contractor’s approved rig-down and rig-up program. Technical execution, supervision, commissioning, function testing, and acceptance remain with the appointed qualified parties unless a separately documented and insured scope establishes otherwise.

03
When is a rig move considered closed?

Physical delivery is one milestone. Commercial and regulatory closeout also requires reconciliation of the asset register, discrepancies, proof of receipt, temporary entries, re-exports, repairs, substitutions, consumptions, losses, damage, claims, and outstanding actions.
